It's tough to watch 3 towers at the same time with over 40 swifts flying around. I am certain about 16 and 1, but where the others went I don't know. This is true where ever we count, whether it's out here in the country or in town.

Can't tell you how much we enjoy counting and look forward to the counts each year.

I counted chimney swifts in our downtown around the courthouse square. There were approximately 75 in the air. The one chimney I was close to had 7 roost in it. There were 15 chimneys or so in the downtown area and I could not see or count roosting in all of them. 6:30-7:37 PM

I hope to have reports from more areas next year as people are slowly becoming aware of the wonderful swift experience.

By the way, a dedicated friend of chimney swifts, 92 yr. old Gerry Kopf from Fulton, IL died recently. He was a champion of not only swifts, but bluebirds and tree swallows as well.
